Wave Reflection

Video imagery is superior evidence than single images in the understanding of Wave Reflection, partly because wave period can be determined.

Two aerial (drone) videos are provided here to provide examples. They were recorded on the evening High Water 16th July 2026, by P. R. Fennessy. This was a Spring Tide with a moderately High Water for summer months; 5.7 metres at Devonport Standard Port. Barometric pressure was about 1016 mb. Wind had been light Easterly during the afternoon. Wave height about 0.25 m.

Vertical Video

Oblique Video

The videos show waves being reflected from the 2016 Wide Concrete Capping on top of the 2016 steel piling. The top of this Concrete Capping is 2.8 metres above Mean Sea Level. Sea level on the evening High Water (2026.07.16) was approximately 10-15 cm below the top of the Wide Concrete Capping.
